Introduction

We first met when fate brought us together at the University of Tasmania in the 1980s. Some of us came for the undergraduate programme, others came for the postgraduate programmes. Such annual events like International Night, Malaysian Cultural Night, Singapore Night gave many of us excuses to show-off our respective countries cultures, share food, cooked for our fellow students. On saturdays, we run into each other at Salamanca Market, sometimes swapped against the crisp morning cold of the Tasmanian winter. Many of us probably still remember the cries of "A dollar a bag! A dollar a bag" from the man selling his grannies. We will also remember the performances put up there - on some days, you have a group of young students performing on string instruments, one others, you see an oboe.

After uni, we went our separate ways - returning home to Thailand, Maldives, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Fiji. Some returned to Australia to raise a family. But we kept in touch.

This blog site was what I owe the group. Pikul have been cajoling me to put up something so we can share our memories online and perhaps get in touch with others who we lose touch with.
